Craton A large block of rock, granite, part of the continental crust, that forms the stable blocks around which a continent grows by accretion of other cratons and later by additions from volcanos and continental crust scraped off subducting oceanic crust as part of the plate tectonic movements of the ocean floor and the continents that "float" on it. |
