Durham, England

It is said the name Durham originated as the Saxon-Norse dun holm or Hill Island. The story of the choice of site where Durham now stands is a long one. According to legend a group of monks who had moved from Lindisfarne with their treasures, including the coffin of the 7th century St. Cuthbert, to escape the continuing raids by the Vikings, had been moving around the north of England searching for a new home. It was said they eventually came to a hill called Dun Holm. Dun Holm eventually became Durham.
