Australia: The Land Where Time Began

A biography of the Australian continent

Granilpi Rock Shelter

Within a cluster of boulders on the northwestern side of a large sandstone outcrop is the location of the Granilpi excavation site which displays extensive rock art (Taçon et al., 1997), while Punipunil is a long narrow rock shelter within a sheltered gorge (Atchison, 2000). Early to Mid-Holocene ages for the sequences were obtained by radiocarbon dating of fruit tree seeds at both Granilpi and Punipunil rock shelter excavations (Atchison, 2000).
