Australia: The Land Where Time Began

A biography of the Australian continent

Indulkana Ranges

At Chambers Bluff, in the Indulkana Ranges, there is a 750 myo seabed which was part of the north-south seaway that bisected Australia at the time, and at an earlier period. 750 million years ago much of the Australian landmass was covered by glaciers and at places like Chambers Bluff, which were shallow seas at the time, can be found drop-stones, stones that are dropped from icebergs that had broken from the glacier as it reached the sea. The stones imbedded in the underside of the ice drop off as the ice melts. .
