Oligo-Miocene Coal Floras of SE Australia Study of the macrofloras and microflora of the Latrobe Valley coal floras has shown that a combined study of the 2 types of fossil in the appropriate sediments can be very useful in interpreting several aspects of environmental conditions from the past. It has been realised that this approach is allowing the complex floral associations to be worked out through space and time for a critical phase of climatic and edaphic transitional in the evolution of Australian plants.
