A biography of the Australian continent

Poole Creek Palaeochannels Silcrete Fossil Site

Eucalyptus fruit are found in the Poole Creek palaeochannels in a sandstone layer near Lake Eyre South. There are 2 layers at this site, the gumnuts are present in the lower layer. It is equivalent to the Willalinchina Sandstone at Stuart Creek. The upper level contains some leaves and the fruits of Casuarina and Grevillea-type fruits. It is believed the upper layer may be equivalent to the Etadunna Formation of the Miocene.
