King George IV built the palace on the site of a farmhouse as a seaside residence in 1787, Work on converting it to the Indian style exterior seen today began in 1815. It has a Chinese style interior and an Indian exterior. It was used by the monarchs George IV, his brother William IV, and their niece Queen Victoria.
