St Margaret's Hope, South Ronaldsay, Orkney, Scotland The town Gills is at the head of a sheltered bay at the northern end of South Ronaldsay. It is now the Orkney end of the car ferry service from Gills Bay 3 miles west of John O'Groats. It was here where the 8-year-old daughter of the King of Norway, Margaret, the Maid-of-Norway, later Saint Margaret, landed and died when the ship carrying her from her home in Norway was blown off course in a storm. Hence the name, at least according to some, the origin of the name is disputed.
