Australia: The Land Where Time Began

A biography of the Australian continent

Thean Hou Buddhist Temple, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

This is the largest temple in Kuala Lumpur, built in 1987 by the Selangor & Federal Territory Hainan Association, in particular, the Hainanese population of KL. Located atop Robson Heights it is a 6-tiered syncretic temple, comprising elements of Daoism, Buddhism and Confucianism, dedicated  to Tian Hou - the Heavenly Mother. In Cantonese Tin Hau - which is literally Goddess of the Sea.

The origin of the Hainanese people is the island of Hainan, China, where they were mostly fishermen, hence their temple being dedicated to the Goddess of the sea, the protector of fishermen.

The links below give some versions of the legends surrounding the girl born in 960 who became the Goddess.
