Australia: The Land Where Time Began

A biography of the Australian continent

Triassic Reptiles of Australia

Archosaurs

At the time of writing there are no known Triassic dinosaurs from Australia. The purported ancestral group of dinosaurs, thecodonts, however, are present in the Triassic of Australia. 2 thecodonts, from the group Archosauria,  have been found in Australia. Kalisuchus, a proterosuchian thecodont, from Queensland, and Tasmaniosaurus, from Tasmania.

Kudnu

This was a primitive lizard that was very similar to the lizards of the present.

Eosuchians

Kadimakara

Mammal-like reptiles predominate the other faunas of Gondwana during the Triassic but in Australia are known only from a set of footprints and some bone fragments.

In Australia, Triassic dinosaurs are known only from the footprints from the Late Triassic of Queensland and from a single dinosaur fossil, Agrosaurus, which is possibly from the Triassic, but is  not been definitely dated.
