Australia: The Land Where Time Began

A biography of the Australian continent

Tsaagan mangas 'white monster', Late Cretaceous, Djadokhta Formation, Ukhaa Tolgod, southwest Mongolia

About 1.5 m long. It was found at Xanadu, near Ukhaa Tolgod, Mongolia. It is regarded as one of the most primitive members of the dromaeosaurids because it differs in a number of anatomical characteristics of its skull and briancase from other members of the group. It was of similar in size to Velociraptor, but had a slightly more robust skull and jaws. It had a long, low skull with upturned snout, leading some to compare its appearance to that of a vulture.
