Orkney Islands are about 10miles north from the coast of Caithness. They are comprised of more than 70 islands, only a small minority of which are settled. Originally populated by Neolithic people, later the Picts, and in 875 they were annexed by Norway. In 1472 it was annexed by Scotland. It has many Megalithic sites, Neolithic people are known to have lived here and built their stone circles and cairns, and stone villages since at least 5500 years ago.
