Yuen Yuen Institute The Yuen Yuen Institute, built in the 1950s, is comprised of prayer halls and pavilions bringing together the 3 main streams of Chinese philosophy: Buddhism (emphasising physical purity leading to Nirvana), Taoism (centred on nature and inner peace) and Confucianism (practicing the philosophical teachings of Confucius). The main pagoda, a red 3-tiered pagoda, is copied from the Temple of Heaven in Beijing. It houses 60 statues, each representing 1of the years of the full Chinese calendar. Followers make offerings to the statue representing their birth year. To visit the institute take the MTR to Tsuen Wan and exit the station at Shiu Wo Street, then catch Minibus 81. Admission is free, and hours are daily 8:30-5
