Australia: The Land Where Time Began

A biography of the Australian continent

Subtropical-Warm Temperate Closed Forests - warm temperate regions - Indo-Malaysian floristic elements

There is a gradual sifting of species and families characteristic of the evergreen Tropical Closed Forests dominated by Indo-Malaysian floristic elements from the Tropic of Capricorn south to Wilson's Promontory in Victoria. The upper level is often lower than that of Tropical Closed Forest, leaf size ranging from notophyll to microphyll. Lianes are still present and Araucarian emergents may still be present in Queensland and northern New South Wales, but disappear further south. Vascular epiphytes are less common to rare.
